Awareness Equals Responsibility

The practice of Mindfulness and cultivating awareness can be challenging.

As we become observers of our own experience, we may begin to see and experience things that produce significant discomfort. The more we become aware, the more we may see patterns of thoughts and behaviors that have not served us in a helpful way. We may experience sadness, anger or even regret. And since our primitive brain is programmed to avoid pain and seek pleasure, a survival instinct that is deeply rooted, it seems only logical to want to avoid those areas that produce discomfort and uncertainty. But avoidance is no longer an option… Awareness, not only equals freedom and clarity; it equals responsibility. When we understand that the only obstacle obstructing our path to peace and love is ourselves and our inability to be accountable, the possibilities for growth and positive change our endless.

No, this is not an easy task. Most of us have decades of practicing thoughts and behaviors that have held us captive to our own fears. It takes courage, focus and faith to face our truths and our lies; unequivocally accepting what was is no longer and what is. Compassion and non-judgement helps to soothe our discomfort, knowing that every moment, like this moment, RIGHT NOW, is an opportunity to begin again. Begin with a new thought, a new action and a new belief, that demonstrates our responsibility, not only to others, but to ourselves. The responsibility of consciousness, which allows us to see the truth and inspires us to fulfill our hopes and dreams. It inspires us like the words of the great mystic poet Kabir…

“Just throw away all thoughts of imaginary things and stand firm in that which you are.”

What are your imaginary things you would like to throw away? Take an inspired action today and stand firm in that which you are.

Be well and practice happiness relentlessly.
